More UP, Michigan

2023.0926

Four days here and the Upper Peninsula (UP) is starting to feel comfortable.  Traveling east from Porcupine Mountains, a beautiful state park, to the eastern end is a smooth ride in September.  A large number of the travelers on road are pulling campers, retirees and other adults without children are extending the travel season, and getting out see the glorious autumn foliage.  While we have had days dampened by clouds and showers, today is more clear skies and dry air than we have had for four days. A stretch stop provided a colorful display of leaves, pic below.  A lunch pull over on the south shore of Superior provided a beautiful vantage point to the beach below and clean picnic tables.  An old fashion water pump caught my eye and brought back childhood memories.  I had to give the large iron handle 6 vigorous pumps to draw up fresh water from below,…  satisfaction.

Pot shops are abundant here in Michigan.  The state may be competing for top 10 state sales, see picture of fire station.  The people are happy.

Near the campground in Curtis, MI, we found a small grocery store and a farm market with fresh local apples which I was craving :-)).  The Log Cabin Campground is open for its final week of the season, occupancy is low, and promises a quiet stay.   It is located on Manistique Lake, Linda appreciates the full hook ups (water, sewer, and electric).  There is time to have a camp fire, and fill in the state of Michigan on the map (pic).  I added slices of the lively looking pepper to the onions on the grill. Added Michigan to the camper map.
